Daith Ear Piercing: Here's what you need to know

Daith Ear Piercing: Here's what you need to know

Daith (commonly pronounced like faith) is an ear piercing of the innermost cartilage of the ear. At Pushkar, we are experienced Daith piercers who offer a range of body jewellery options, friendly advice and aftercare.

Considering a Daith Piercing? Here’s everything you need to know:

What is a Daith Piercing?

A Daith piercing is an ear piercing of the innermost cartilage fold of the ear, known as the crux of the helix, and is done using a straight hollow needle.

Daith Ear Piercing for Migraine Relief

The Daith piercing first became popular in the early 90’s, with it fast becoming a perceived form of alternative medicine for migraine pain relief. Although there is no scientific evidence, a daith piercing can work in a similar way to acupuncture and be effective pain relief from migraines. On occasion, we have witnessed immediate relief from headaches for some of our past clients!

Is a Daith Piercing Painful?

In short, yes! As with any needle piercing, you may be cautious of the likely pain. Some of our clients say the piercing feels more like a dull pressure as we are piercing the harder cartilage area of the ear. It is slightly more painful than an ear lobe piercing, however as everybody’s pain thresholds differ, what’s painful for some may not be for others.

Aftercare and Healing Time

3-9 months to heal completely. This doesn’t mean the piercing will be painful for this length of time, rather this is the key time you should be planning to take extra care and maintain cleanliness to aid the healing process.

We strongly recommend waiting at least 12 weeks before changing the jewellery on your daith piercing to enable faster healing.

Daith Piercing Jewellery

We recommend either a surgical steel or titanium earring is used for Daith piercings as these contain less nickel and are hypoallergenic.

Hoops (Clickers) in general work well for a Daith Piercing as they naturally hug the cartilage of the ear. Clicker rings with a captive bead look are a popular choice; A circular hoop with a central bead, provides a simple and stylish look, as shown below.

Other options include a horse shoe, depending on the look you are wanting to achieve. A Daith Piercing costs between $60-66 depending on the jewellery chosen
